106PD-4 Inverting Preamp and DC Discriminator PCB

The 106PD-4 Inverting Preamp and DC Discriminator printed circuit board (PCB) is a versatile radiation detector preamp primarily designed for use with photomultiplier based scintillation detectors.  Gain can be set with a turret terminal mounted gain resistor R6, or with an on-board 10-turn trimpot (the PCB is configured to allow either).  It is equipped with a simple dc bias discriminator circuit; discrimination is accomplished with a 10-turn trimpot mounted on the board.  The discrimination range resistor R8 is also turret terminal mounted for ease of selection or change on a fastened board.  The 106PD-3 is essentially the same inverting preamp, but with a fancier comparator based discrimination circuit (it is half an inch longer than the 106-PD-4 board).  The dc bias discriminator scheme has been around for decades and was used in GO COSMOS tools; however, we prefer the comparator based discriminator in the 106PD-3 unless space is at a premium.  The 106PD-4 PCB is jumper configurable to be compatible with either armor / chassis negative or armor / chassis positive line power.  It requires only a single 10-15 volt power supply to operate.  The 106PD-4 PCB measures 0.8 inches wide and mounts on 2.5 inch centers.

The 106PD-4 Inverting Preamp and DC Discriminator PCB is part of the 106 Radiation Tool™ PCB family.  106 Radiation Tool PCBs can be used to upgrade or repair tools, or an entire electronics section can be assembled from scratch using several PCBs (as in reworking an old tube / Nuvistor tool).  All 106 Tool PCBs use readily obtainable components, which parts will continue to be available for many years to come, and all use convenient turret terminals for wire connections.  Due to time constraints on maintaining this website, the PCB illustrated below may not be the most recent revision of the board and / or circuit.
