CCL-NCB Downhole CCL Amplifier PCB

The CCL-NCB Downhole Casing Collar Locator (CCL) Amplifier printed circuit board (PCB) is a  simple and reliable Comprobe style downhole CCL amplifier suitable for use in a wide range of cased hole logging tools.  It has a very compact and narrow footprint, making it ideal as a replacement board for the Comprobe shrink wrapped "CCL in a bag" applications.  (See our Casing Collar Locator (CCL) pages for more general information.)  It uses the TIP120 (or the TIP122 higher voltage rated version) Darlington transistor for very high gain.  It is normally used in 120 volt powered tools, but can be modified for 30-50 volt operation.  It tolerates a wide range of CCL coil resistances unlike many other designs.  We have installed TIP120 based downhole CCL amplifiers in scores of tools, and customers often report back the vast improvement they experience over what they were previously using. The CCL-NCB PCB is compatible with either armor / chassis negative or armor / chassis positive line power. The CCL-NCB PCB measures 0.5 inches wide and 2.6 inches long.  It uses readily available components, which parts will continue to be available for many years to come.  Due to time constraints on maintaining this website, the PCB illustrated below may not be the most recent revision of the board and / or circuit.
