The 106DR-1 and the 106DR-2 Divide-By Circuit (Divider) printed circuit boards (PCBs) are pulse dividers suitable for use in a wide range of radiation logging tools. A divide-by circuit is appropriate or required in certain tools, including neutron detector based tools, density tools, gamma-ray tools used for radioactive tracer survey (RTS or RATS) work, etc. See our High Count Rates page for a more complete discussion of this issue.
The 106DR-1 Divider PCB uses 4013 and 4024 cmos integrated circuits to process and divide incoming pulses. This is essentially the same circuit used in the neutron section of the GO/GOI/MLS COSMOS neutron preamp, and in a large number of other neutron tools produced over the last few decades. It is equipped with a jumper (JP1) to select no division, and divide-by 2 through divide by 128 (/1, /2, /4, /8, /16, /32, /64, /128). Output pulse polarity is jumper selectable (JP2). Timing resistors R1 and R2 are turret terminal mounted for ease of selection or change on a fastened board. The 106DR-1 PCB is jumper configurable to be compatible with either armor / chassis negative or armor / chassis positive line power. It requires only a single 10-15 volt power supply to operate. The 106DR-1 PCB measures 0.8 inches wide and mounts on two (2) inch centers.
The 106DR-2 Divider PCB uses 4538 and 4024 cmos integrated circuits to process and divide incoming pulses. Because the 4538 is configured to be non-retiggerable, basic anti-collision protection is possible even in the no-division mode, a nice feature in high count rate applications. It is equipped with a jumper (JP1) to select no division, and divide-by 2 through divide by 64 or 128 (/1, /2, /4, /8, /16, /32, /64, [/128]). The 106DR-2 is bond kill ready for use with the 106BK-2 (or the appropriate pulse output from the UBK-4). Output pulse polarity is jumper selectable (JP2). Pulse width setting resistors R2 and anti-collision timing resistor R1 are turret terminal mounted for ease of selection or change on a fastened board. The 106DR-2 PCB is jumper configurable to be compatible with either armor / chassis negative or armor / chassis positive line power. It requires only a single 10-15 volt power supply to operate. The 106DR-2 PCB is 0.8 inches wide and mounts on two (2) inch centers.
The 106DR-1 and the 106DR-2 Divider PCBs are part of the 106 Radiation Tool™ PCB family. 106 Radiation Tool PCBs can be used to upgrade or repair tools, or an entire electronics section can be assembled from scratch using several PCBs (as in reworking an old tube / Nuvistor tool). All 106 Tool PCBs use readily obtainable components, which parts will continue to be available for many years to come, and all use convenient turret terminals for wiring connections. Due to time constraints on maintaining this website, the PCBs illustrated below may not be the most recent revision of the boards and / or circuits.
